Kickdown cable adjustment 700 1990

Our 1990 765Ti down shifts at too low of an RPM (almost 3000). I really like where our 91 240 shifts at about 2700 or 2800, it feels a lot smoother there and also doesn't jump into the lower gear on hills. If I adjust the kickdown cable on our 765Ti (loosen or tighten?) can I lower the point where the tranny shifts?
