My antenna and its many 'ups and downs' 700 1990

My antenna mast is in a very bad mood. It won't retract into the trunk area of the car unless I push it down when the antenna motor is in "retract" mode. It will raise just fine, but makes an awful noise after it has fully extended (the antenna motor keeps running).

My question is: Is there a way to fix this? If not, where is the best (read: least expenisve!) place to get a replacement.
