Can one of you smart volvo guys help me out. I bought a used 1997 volvo 960 wagon in Nov. I had it checked by two mechanics, including at the Volvo dealership and learned about the problems but figured that buying the car for $9000. left me room to do repairs. Last week the check engine light came on. The non dealership but highly recommemnded mechanic said he put it on the computer 3 times and couldn't find anything. He did notice, by driving it, a hissing noise when putting on the brakes, and not always. He surmises that means that the "servo" (???) is going bad and requires a replacement $700.00 job. Does this sound right? He says he thinks the hissing is from the vacuum hoses which are effected by the servo??? I really don't have complete faith in any mechanic because I have never had one say, well, maybe I was wrong so I won't charge you. What to do?? Ideas please. I don't speak mechanic.
Thanks in advance
