Help with wiring for foglights 200 1987

Hello-
I received a set of the IPD foglights for Christmas. Everything looks pretty straight ahead for intallation, except for one wiring thing. The directions say I need to tap the red and black wire from the parking lights and wire those to the foglights, I'm assuming so the foglights will come on when I turn on my lights. Is it possible to just forget about that and run the lights only off of the switch that is provided? Thanks!
