Why does my '89 245 STALL and run poorly in the RAIN??? 200 1989

Hello
I have an 89 245 and it stalls and runs ROUGH in the rain... especially after I hit a big puddle - LOOK OUT! It sputters and temporarily loses power. What is the cause and how do I fix this w/o taking it to the shop?
