I have an 89 240, DL and would like to have a limited slip diff. However, Volvo wants $2,000 for one. I can't find any in the yards - rare - this was originally a dealer installed option. The aftermarket mix and match is a complete nightmare for a non-tech-suspension-specialist, like myself. I read some of the archives dealing with this subject (no one agreed on anything and the numbers, the brands, the models, the ratios, the criss cross of correct and incorrect part numbers was staggering to say the least. No way am I going to risk all that money only to get lost in the whole project. I need to keep this as simple as possible.
So I thought, just maybe, a 940 (most seem to have the locking diff as standard equipment) complete rear, including the independent suspension might be a better way to go? I can certainly find them in the yards cheaper than buying a whole new rear for the 240 from Volvo.
Anyone do it? Any welding mods needed? ... Details please. RBM
