Brake opinions....... 700

Please bear with me, I'm new to the site....I'm just posting this for others who may be going through the same frustration!!

Well since I just bought my Volvo, I had all 4 calipers replaced with new aftermarket brake pads. Needless to say,the rear brakes started squealing like a son of a gun!!!!Drove me ABSOLUTELY CRAZZZZZZZZY! It had some brake dust so I ended up cleaning the units multiple times with brake cleaner which stopped the squealing, oh let's say for only 3 miles!

I participate on a Zcar forum so I thought there should be one for Volvos!(should of thought of that before) (Anyhow, I found you guys and have had great friendly reponses) so I did a search on the forum and it helped tremendously!!

I ended up finding out that I had no shims on the aftermarket pads! I went and bought a Volvo OEM pad set (approx. $36; pn# 271824-5) which were tapered and which came with 2 different shims PER pad ( a teflon and a stainless steel one ). The guy at the dealer said to use both shims, teflon first then steel with brake grease (I used a synthetic by Versachem bought at advanced auto) between each shim application and on back of steel shim for piston, also a little on the sides of the pads' back plate and on the pins!

HOLY SMOKE, HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE SQUEAL!I just want to thank you guys for having this forum and giving your advice; It is a MAJOR help!! Keep it up!!

I don't know what you guys think about buying OEM pads and shims but I'd like to know your opinions...........
