The stock radio in my 1990 740 started showing the message " head" when tapes are playing. I assumed this meant the heads are dirty so I removed the radio and gave it a careful cleaning with head cleaner. Did the wheels and head and now it is perfectly clean, but the message still shows. Can it be cleared or does it mean the heads are worn out?? Tapes do not sound as good as FM so I fear the heads may be shot. Replacement heads are more expensive than aftermarket CD decks unfortunately.
