Speedometer Swap 700 1986

The speedometer in my 1986 740GLE (non-turbo) quit working shortly after I bought the car. I have not been able to find another one. Is there any other year model that will swap in as an exact replacement? I had heard that a speedometer from a 1990 700 series would swap in, is this true? Or does anyone know where I might be able to find another speedometer?
