'90+ Rear Taillights on an '88 744 gle 700 1988

Last Tuesday I picked up a nice set of '90 rear tailights from pick and pull thinking I could just hook them up and I'd be on my way. Well I didn't realize that they used different harnesses so now I don't know what to do. Has anybody else figured this out? Also what is the best technique to convert them to all red tail's? What type of paint do I use and so forth? Thanks alot.
