'MERCON V' trans fluid / ok in '91 745 N/A ? 900

Just wondering if anyone out there has used the new "Mercon V" ATF
in volvo automatic transmissions. my transmision tech at work will flush the ATF for me (no charge) but I'm unsure about the new type fluid. The volvo called for "type F" if I am not mistaken. This is '91 740 N/A workhorse and I just want to know if anyone knows any reason I should NOT use this fluid.
(If need be I'll use "mercon 3" thats been in for 60k with no problem.)
