740 and (trying to sneak in ) 240 question

Newbe here is contemplating buying a 740 or 240 manual trans wagon. I have never owned a Volvo and the last one I was in was in 1966 when my buddy banged into a tree in a ralley when the 544 only had 550 miles on it.
Question: What kind of fuel consumption can one attribute to these cars.
