Possibly buying a brick.. help me make sure? 200 1987

Greetings folks, I was cruising alt.autos.volvo someone highly reccomended I should come here for help.

I have in my posession, a Automatic 1987 240DL w/ 162K miles on it. It was my goog friends' wife's car for many years, until she got a minivan and then it sat in thier barn for a while. He's selling it, possibly to me...
Came with 1 gallon of power steering fluid
(enough for a good 6-12 months of refills ;-) .

Two rust holes from the front door drain holes
"Common problem", I hear..... true?

The mechanic notes from the last few trips to the wrench indicate a
need for :

New Master Cylinder: @ $200
Trailing Arm Bushings @ $???

He's letting me drive it for a week to to see if I dig the car or not,
and to have it looked at by my mechanic of choice. I have a appointment at a local Saab/Volvo specialist to go over the car and let me know what all it's gonna need to be road worthy and pass State inspection.

I have notice a lot of loose clunking noises in the front, right, wheel, area when braking and turning, turning on bumpy roads etc... possibly Contol Arm Bushings or Ball joints or????

The long and short of it is I don't have a lot of $ to thow into the car chasing one problem after another.. I'm doing that now w/ a 250K Mi pick-up truck, which is why I'm considering the purchase of this vehicle.

So give it to me straight... What am I getting myself into?
