I ran across a 1990 740 with the dohc engine and auto trans. The mechanic who had worked on it said that it came in with a broken timing belt. He replaced the belt, but it won't start, probably bent valves (?).
The body is in excellent shape, and the leather interior seems perfect. the car has about 195K. It has a new exhaust, and it looks well cared for until this problem popped up. They need the room and asked me what I would give for it and I'm wondering about a few things.
Would it be worth it to try to fix this engine?
Could I drop a b230f in with out too much trouble?
Could I take the auto trans out of this one and put it in my 1985 740 manual (b230f).
What would you pay for it? What would it be worth
(I want the 15 inch alloys. the good leather seats, the transmission and a few other interior parts worth about 300-600 total)
Thanks for any input,
jc
