Tranny Jerking 200 1983

1983 240 Volvo Sedan

The primary issue is that the overdrive/5th gear button won't always work. I looked at the overdrive wire, and noticed that it's rather old and stripped. I'm having a new wiring harness put in at the shop. Is this right?

Second...I noticed some jerking while in 4th or 5th gear. The car kind of jolts back and forth, as if it's changing gears all by itself. This is rather scary when you're on a highway going 60 mph. Any thoughts on this one? Is it possibly because of the overdrive wire issue?

I bought an extra tranny for this car. Should I have it installed soon?
