Paint Question 200 1988

Greetings from Southern California,

My ole' 88 240 DL has the original paint( dark blue) and is starting to oxidize on the top. My mechanic thinks that it is the clearcoat oxidizing and I can "rub it out".

Since a new paint job is not in the budget at this time, is there anything that I can do to improve the appearance of the top while minimizing the damage to the existing paint or clear coat? I was thinking of fine rubbing compound and then the wax with color pigment in it to restore some of the color.

As always, any assistance is much appreciated.

88 240 DL, 391,000 miles on the original engine. At 500,000 I'm gettin' a TURBO
