regular readers may have seen my request for advice on putting in an 85 aw71 in my 89 760 (b280). the flywheel postion sensor was not present on the 85 bellhousing, thusly a need for a swap.

well, in my gravel driveway on some scrap shag carpet friday (65 degrees in denver), i swapped bellhousings between the two aw's, not as easy as it could've been had the designers expected a need for this to be done. there is about a 3 inch sleeve that fits on the inside diameter of the housing and of course pulling it off that sleeve is a bitch. the front shafts and gears and bearings all come out at the same time so meticulously putting back together was necessary. to add to it, the sleeve came off with the bellhousing on one and not on the other. anyway carefully beat the fucker back together. all seems well (rear shaft spins in both directions when actuated).

3 other problems have manifested.
1.i had to switch the kickdown cable too. fairly easy to figure out (when tranny isn't installed). course now its leaking. a friend suggested "silicone, silicone, silicone.)

2.linkage is a tad confusing. i've got forward, forward low, reverse and the sound of my park being stripped. the second shift linkage seems to restrict the movement of the other linkage only. haven't compared it to my 89's original (85s seems to 'fit'); but anyway where is my neutral and the neutral that park would normally lock in? haven't screwed with it to much, left all the length on the linkage where it was so i wouldn't have to adjust.

3.broke off a bolt on the aw's oil pan (directly below the kickdown cable) i pressumed that the leak was from my new gasket being not tight enough, and bolt was tightening in a very believible manner until snap. i guess these are a little to easy to overtighten. should i fret over this? no leak seems present there 'now' i presume this is something i 'should' repair, but i don't have the particular desire to fix if not nec, nor the tools.

any advice on these bits would be appreciated.
