240 Running Cold 200 1987

The weather has turned cold here in AZ and in the past 2 days my brick is running cold. At freeway speeds the temp gauge only gets to about 1/3. well below the half way mark. I am assuming the thermostat is stuck open but wanted opinions before I drain the coolant and replace it. Sticking open is sort of rare aint it? Any advice is welcomed! Dan
