(cont from prev post about head gasket) (87 740 w/ 180K)
I removed the head. Head gasket was broken between cylinder 1 and 2. I was glad.
Then I looked at the head and it's chipped away (surface) from cylinder 1 and 2. It's missing about 1/4 inch of metal between the walls.
I talked to the machine shop and they said they can weld or layer new al over it and resurface it. (cost about 200 total). I don't it will be the same alloy as the head.
Is that a good idea or should I look into getting a new head from a bone yard? And if I get a head, should I use these valves and cam on it?
And also something odd, the last head bolt (10) was covered (threads) in black carbon and oil. All others were clean. Something to be concerned about?
The piston and chamber look great, no carbon, no nicks and I can still see the circular grooves on the piston surface.
I'm not too confident in this machine shop (napa), they did my front C arm bushings and when they returned them, they were loose. Not a good job.
thanks and worried.
