Hey Patrick of Montreal 200 1982

Patrick, did you ever find out what was making that noise coming from the right rear wheel? I just finished a 3000km trip in my 245 and in the last km before home the noise started. I pulled the axle, bearing looks fine, no evidence of heat up. Pulled diff. cover thinking something got chewed up, nothing. I put the car on stands with it in first gear, very little sound, 2nd same, third and fourth (plus overdrive) sound horrible. I did the above with the diff cover off so I could watch the differential, nothing out of the ordinary. Spinning the passenger rear wheel produces a slight "punk punk punk" sound (whats normal?). It is really hard to detect where the noise is actually coming from, without stethoscope it could be anywhere from the bellhousing to the right rear wheel. I had noticed a slight whine coming from the area between the front seats a couple of days ago (1500kms ago), could all this awful noise just be the steady bearing or u-joints? Perhaps it's unrelated, but soon will need attention. It would be nice to get a handle on it before I have to go changing out a ton of parts. (parts car is in a snow bank right now) Thanks, Chad.
PS. I ran the car without the calipers or rotors (no wheels on stands)and the sound persisted.
