pre-purchase ?'s for 82 240 Wagon 200 1982

Goooood Morning!
Well, I looked at what appears to be a well kept 82 240 DL Wagon a few hours ago. Nice paint, nice interior, 3rd seat, pet gate, typical electrical gremlins in the tailgate and dome-light doesn't work, engine compartment seemed kind of dirty (leaves and stuff) but I don't think they've been driving it for awhile. I plan to go look in the light too (never buy a car in the dark)
267K on the clock, 3rd owner. May have maint. complete maint. records, but I won't know til morning light. Asking price is $1200, but I suspect they'd go lower if I had cash in hand.
My main bargaining chip (besides the maligned Chrysler Ignition) is that it is experiencing poor running when warm. I've yet to test drive, but the owner described the symptom as "chugging". Car doesn't die, but won't run properly until it sits for awhile. Owner claims that the problem has been diagnosed as some sort of faulty "valve" but she couldn't remember what it was called. Possible $500 fix for a mechanic they spoke with to do the job. Air flow sensor?
I have a complete 80 240 Wagon (with a 79 engine)that I can use as a parts car, but I am not sure if much of the fuel and ignition parts are compatible.

Here are my questions -

1)Any ideas on what the problem might be? (I may find this out later this morning when I talk to the other half of the owner, but I want your opinions)

2)How much is likely to be compatible between the 80/79 and the 82?

3)Does $1200 sound high for a potentially troubled high mileage 82 240 Wagon?

Thanks for any and all opinions!!

Ben Vahl
