running hot 200 1989

Temp gauge on instrument panel is higher than usual -- about halfway between midrange and and the red "overheated" zone. Coolant/H2O Levels are fine. What else should we consider when trying to diagnose and remedy the problem? We are somewhat new to home repairs, and to Volvo ownership, but have done great in the past with other makes & models (Alternators, Water Pumps, Heater Cores, etc..) Thanks!
