I see oil! 900 1992

LAstweeken I changed the timing and serpentine belt, while doing so, I noticed a small amount of oil on the valve cover. I took the wiring harness(?) off of the spark plug tha the oil was around and found it extremely dry and thus free of oil. The channel surrounding the valve cover, the one that seats the plastic cover also was oil free. Any ideas where the gold oil (not used persay but cooked from the heat of the valve cover) came from?
