Help!!! My power steering just failed 200 1982

Hi,

I have a 1982 244 GL.
Today, while I was driving, I suddenly heard noises coming from the front for 2 minutes, and the power steering stopped working.
I checked the steering oil, and it is full. I don't have a leak.
What are the possible problems? (a friend told me it might be a torn belt)
I am not a handy-man, so could you please try and estimate the cost of the possible problems.
