I'll take a better look under the dash -- flashlight this time, not lighter (isn't that a great idea? Amazing how smart-yet-stupid I can be...) Thanks to all for your suggestions and input. The car did take a good hit a few years ago, but maybe, just maybe, the core's still OK.
