Rear shocks 200 1993

Last fall I had the rear shocks replaced on my 93 240 - Evidently they were leaking. My local Midas shop (I'm 300+ miles away from a Volvo dealer) replaced the shocks with the recommended midas replacement. When I drove the car home I noticed that it was riding like an old buckboard, extremely stiff and I could feel every crack in the road. I returned to the shop and had the mechanic road test the car. He agreed that something wasn't right and checked his material. He noted that in the documentation for that shock, it mentioned a specific spring was required. So he ordered and replaced my old springs. After replacing the springs he tried it out again, and felt there the springs didn't solve the issue, so he replaced the midas shocks with monroe. They seemed to be a little better but the car still does not ride the way I remember my other 240's riding..

Any advice would be welcome....
