I need your help! I spent 4 hours today following the careful instructions from Bentley manual and the FAQs available here and replaced the timing belt and all the V-belts on my 1987 245 wagon, and at the end, I can not start the car! What possibly has gone wrong? Since the car was running smoothly prior to my doing this job, I am wondering if the cause is related to the timing and not to the usual sources of a car not starting (sparks then fuel, etc.)
I brought the engine to TDC watching the rotor pointing to the notch at the distributor case where the wire goes to 1st spark plug. The camshaft and the auxillairy shaft marks pointed to the correct marks, but I can't see any mark on the crankshaft pulley. Can this be the source of my problem, although once at TDC, all three pulleys are not moving much when I slipped the old belt out and put the new belt in? Will I need to go back in and repeat the procedure again?
Thanks.
