No start 700 1988

Same old problem here... My 88 740 GLE wagon was running fine until the other day. I went out to cold start it and it just kept cranking. It won't actually turn over. I've pretty much ruled out the fuel system as the relay is working correctly, I can hear the pump sounds, the lines are all good, and the tank is 3/4 full. That leaves the ignition system. Here there are new plugs, new wires, a clean and well running rotor. So what's up? How can I localize the part that's not working correctly and how do I keep it working correctly this time?
