tranny tights 900 1992

Lately when I start the car sometimes the lights behind the gear selector for "E" "W" "S" will blink profusely on and off back and forth and it seems the car want go into gear real well. If I turn the car off it is hard to restart. I even have to let it set for a while and try again later. It has done this about 3 times so far but after a while it will restart. What is happening? Help!!!
