Cruise control 700 1986

Hi,

I am having problems getting the cruise control to work on my 1986 Volvo 760 Turbo. I saw on some archived posts that sometimes the lighting system contributes to this problem. How can I go about solving this? The only light problem I have is that the housing for the driver's side taillight socket has a broken piece of plastic, so the socket does not stay secure in the housing.
