flush rear glass on 245 models??? 200

what was the earliest year that the 245 went to the flush mounted rear glas - rather then the 1" sill that rusts out.

Are the newer style tailgates less susceptible to rust??

Also - did Volvo go back to the 4spd +o/d - or did they stay with the 5spd manual?

If they went back - what year??
