FI Relay/Radio Suppression Relay 700 1987

This AM my wife was driving the car, she says she smelled an electrical smell and heard a "pop". I went and traded cars with her. I smell no smell and the car drives/runs fine. I did notice a radio/rpm noise though. So I hit the archives. My question is: Will this relay slowly die or quit? If I read the archives correctly I am on the right track. I may be wrong.
