Well, the post transmission transplant blues continues.

Car is 1990 745 Turbo w/ new M46. Problem is that it does not run well post operatively, does not accelerate, hesitates, like bad timing. There is another post (yesterday) relating more details.

I spent some time with a Saab mechanic this afternnon, and we have reached the conclusion that the most likely problem is the flywheel being replaced incorrectly. I was not scrupulously careful to reinstall the flywheel exactly right (I did put a spot of paint on it, but the machine shop ground off most of it, and I did'nt know it was so important.)

So here's the question: There are a bunch of holes drilled into the flywheel around the perimeter (we see them through the RPM sensor hole). There is one spot that does not have holes, maybe 2 holes are skipped. How should that spot align with the TDC mark on the end of the crankshaft? Should that spot be under the RPM sensor at exactly TDC? The problem might be that I will take the tranny back out, and there are no marks at all, adn I will have to know just how to align the flywheel.

Unfortunately, I have the Haynes manual that describes the cars up to 1988, and the RPM sensor did not appear until 1989 (non-turbo) or 1990 (turbo). I guess this is a case where buying the Volvo shop manual might have saved by bacon.
