inner tie rod ends 200 1979

Hi, I have a 79 245 with a loose inner tie rod end. I have a 81 242 parts car with good inner tie rod ends. Which is easiest: swap the good inner tie rod end from the 242 to the 245 OR swap the whole steering rack? I'm told that the tie rods vary considerably in these years, so I'm concerned the individual rods wouldn't be interchangeable. Sure looks like the whole rack and steering shaft to the firewall are switcheable. Any ideas? thanks, keith
