Overdrive Solenoid Replacement on 4spd OD 83 240 200 1983

I need to replace my Overdrive solenoid on my 83 240 which has a 4 speed tranny w/ overdrive. Do I need to drain the tranny fluid to do this job. From what I understand this solenoid is the little canister thing attached under the tranny and has two wires connected to it. If it is the cause of the leak then I am figuring that I will have to drain the tranny fluid to change it out. Let me know if this is correct or not. Please Help. Doug...
