Power antenna motor blows every fuse 700 1988

Alright, after a few days of sitting around I went out to finish my deadly job of replacing the antenna mast. Of course, after I removed the old mast and put the new one in, it still doesn’t work right. It has two major problems:

1. The new mast does not go down properly. The motor seems to let it down a few inches and the it goes back up half the amount. It continues this way until the tip of it finally reaches the car and then it just bangs it up and down like it’s trying to put it in further. Not to mention, the motor never stops running when the mast is up. It just remains on and keeps clicking.
2. As soon as I put the antenna up and then turn on my radio, it blows the fuse. If I turn the radio on but don’t put the antenna up, the fuse is fine. This is very annoying since I went through about 4 fuses before U just decided to cut the power from the antenna while it was up.

Any suggestions? I’m clueless and don’t feel like coming close to loosing another finger.
