HI FLOW CAT, GOOD OR BAD 200 1990

i was thinking of buying a hi flow cataylalic converter, that is said to give more horse power, i was wondering if it will afeect the performance of the car, will no back pressure in the car cause it to run poorly. i heard the car ran of back pressure to get better readings, or is factory the best to stay with, any input would be great thanks in advance.
