gear ratio and fuel milage 200

Scenario- 89 244 b230f m46 tranny (auto convert) 3.73 rear axle ratio. My quest is to make this beloved 244 more fuel efficient. Presently averaging approx 23.5 to 25 city hwy combo. Would it be worth the effort to change the rear axle ratio to 3.54 or 3.31 for the sake of better fuel milage? Any thoughts comments expertise in this area would be appreciated. Thanks
