My wife drove here 1990 240 DL wagon to work this morning and it started fine.
After work she went to start the car an nothing happened. The started did not turn over. So I jumped in my car and tried to rescue her. But I had to get it towed to my home...
This is what I tested...
1) Battery is fully charged.
2) When you turn the ignition key on sounds like solenoid clicks, but a very faint click.
3) I removed the shifter cover and messed with N. safety switch, that did not make a difference.
4) I kept turning the ignition key on and tried to move the shifter through all of the gears. (Nothing)
5) I took one strand of electrical wire and attached one end to the + side of the battery and touched the other end to the + side of the solenoid. I got sparks, but the starter did not turn-over. I think I need to connect the wire to the other smaller side of the solenoid. I will try that in the morning.
6) Is there anything else I can try? Fuses, wires or breakers? I don't want to take out the started unless I know it's bad. I noticed wire 50 goes to the N. safety switch, can I rig some kind of test?
Thanks for any help... , :)
