I have been at this one for at least a fortnight bothering you fine people for your input on a problem I had rolling down the freeway.
All of a sudden, my power went kaput and it seemed to be running on about one and a half cylinders. I popped the fuel filter line open to see if it had fuel and went and bought myself a Haynes manual (I had the car for less than a week).
I put in new: plug wires, coil, distributor cap and rotor. I even put two bottles of 99% alchohol in the gas tank and a catalytic converter. I bought the wrong fuel pressure tester so that was bull... I checked the cold start valve, Control Pressure Regulator and the Auxilliary Air valve. Only the frequency valve was out of limits (348 ohms)!
It was sunday and I needed to spend time with the family, instead of all of my weekends took up with this and I was tired of dealing with the uncertainty. I called all the places that were open and they could not understand what the heck it was, nor what system it properly belonged to (software today seems to demand that knowlege beforehand...wonder why).
In desperation, I called the pick a part junkyard and was told to go look at the old '75 245 they had to be scabbed... Nothing there but low an behold, they had four old Volvos there and the last one had just what I needed! Bursting with excitement, I pulled it and the CPR for the old K-jet and looked at getting the fuel distributor out but there wasn't enough time!
I slapped it on and whoopee! the damn thing runs again, but a little rough. I messed with the idle a bit to keep it running for diagnostics, so I had to readjust the idle to keep it running. Yep there was definately more power in the old horse, but a bit on the missing side. Hmmm, what could be zha troubles, I ask. It is missing on number four cylinder! It is getting plenty of spark, just no bang-de bang.
Must be the injector went dead on me! Maybe, I go to pick a part tomorrow and pull an injector!
BUT...
Not one of them smart-a-holics on this board thought of suggesting the frequency valve was the problem! It was not supposed to KILL the car!
But it will if its dead! Guess what it cost me?
one dollar and a whole lot o heartburn!
:D
