MAJOR OIL LEAK 200 1989

Here it is:

214,000 miles on my '89 with I believe a B230F engine. Vehicle was running fine until this morning.

Driving out this morning and saw the dreaded trail of smoke. Pulled over and saw dripping off engine and on to exhaust near center of firewall. Believe wind forced oil backward towards firewall from front of engine. When I parked, I noticed leakage of fluids from the nuts on the black housing a few inches from the radiator fan. Believe this housing covers the camshaft sprockets and other things.

It is a given that I'm in for:
Oil change & filter
Belts
Mucho Labor

I don't know if this is a blown head gasket enabling oil to make its way out the camshaft, OR if this is a front seal, OR if it is something else. Which of these problems require removing the engine? What else should be done 'while the mechanic is at it'?

Would really appreciate any guidance on diagnosing this prior to taking to a mechanic who probably realizes I don't know the cause/cost of the problem. Am currently immobile - not good.

Thanks.

Greasy B
