I'm getting an odd clunk or thump when braking cold.
Example, back out of parking spot, proceed through parking lot, brake to cross speed barrier, and I'll get a vibration, then a clunk. Then, the brake pedal will release a bit towards the floor, without any additional pressure applied by the driver. Its almost like it has a "catch" and then releases. This is very infrequent - perhaps once a day or every other day.
Suggestions?
I'm pretty sure the vibration is due to warped front rotors. I just purchased a beam type torque wrench (thanks for the input, bricksters!). It revealed 150 ft/lbs on the left side and about 100 on the right side!!!
I also have the "jolt left" scenario when braking, so probably strut rod bushings there.
The other items of interest are that the ABS light flashes intermittently - sometimes goes off, sometimes stays on. I can usually get it to stay off if I turn the car off and back on (is this a Bill Gates design!?!?)
The SRS light stays on as well.
After purchase in October (115000 miles) I have replaced front rotors, pads, calipers & pins. Replaced a bent rim, and 2 new front tires (Toyo proxima (i think) to match the rear tires. Rear brakes squeak terribly, and need new rotors, as well. Pads are almost new back there.
The dealer noted a problem with the ABS, and fixed it by sotering a wire in place that seemed to do the trick - sorry, I don't know any more details on this one.
