Shutting down a turbo 900 1991

My 945T has a programmable gizmo to have the engine run on after switching the key off. Ostensibly, this is to allow the turbo to cool down and, thereby, extend the life of the turbocharger

However, once again the local Volvo dealer's opinion differs from BBers (remember, they also told me synthetic oil was of no benefit and that Volvo certainly didn't make any special recommendations about using it!)

Well, now they are insisting that the engine delay switch is unnecessary as my turbocharger is water-cooled. I duly switched the gizmo off but really want to know what the drift is, guys?

Shalom!
