Wiring issue 200 1983

This may be more of a stereo-wiring question than a specific Volvo question, but here goes...

My speakers (which have had no problems before, and are top of the line) sounded very distorted on a drive this weekend. Upon turning the dome light on to investigate the problem, the distortion stopped altogether.

Is this a ground issue? Stereo Fuse or car fuse issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
