blower motor runs even in off position can i install a rocker switch to cut it off? 700 1985

my blower motor always runs. it is noticable because the motor makes more noise now when barely on. you can hear it slowly operate in the off position. i have automatic climate adjustment and a/c. so would it be ok to put a kill switch to cut the fan off when not needed? if it is ok, what wire do you put the switch on? the negative or positive? would a rocer switch from a 240 work?
