I just picked up an 83 240 DL, 2 dr coupe with 176k for $100 (first volvo). Needless to say, its a total rust bucket but it seems to run and drive just fine and I've already put 300 miles on it. One concern I have is that it had no radio in it and I'd like to change this.
The wiring seemed to be coming from the upper hole (above vents) but the wires were awfully stretched and it seemed like the radio was supposed to be mounted in the lower hole by the shifter. There is absolutely nothing but a hole remaining in the upper hole (no DIN sized plate or what), whereas the lower hole seems to have a groove for something to slide into. So my questions are...
Where was it mounted from the factory? I called up crutchfield to see about ordering an installation kit and they have one for upper or lower BUT they will only work if the radio was in that location from the factory. And if the radio came from the factory in the lower location, I think I'd kind of like to have it in the upper location. To anybody who has the radio in the bottom, how much of PITA is it to put CDs in and out?
Any suggestions? Thanks.
