Hi all,
I was looking at a 1984 244 turbo. Car ran beautifully, had 210k on the
clock, turbo boosted fine but the turbo was leaking oil. Body straight with
some paint blemishes, needs to be redone to be great, it is black. Trunk
lid looked to need to be realigned, there was no rust except a little
surface on the edge of body where trunk was rubbing when closed. Car was a
california car at least there is a smog sticker on the driver rear window
which looks to have smog stats for the car(it's clear and has a bunch of HC
and other emmision stuff listed). Has correct wheels, with tires with not
too much tread left on them.
Has new Boge turbo gas shocks and struts all around. Has Black Leather
seats(decent shape,no tears but aged), and carpet is nice black, and
headliner is black, BUT the door panels are tan!! The sunroof works but
there is a noise when you crank it open right as it is loading with pressure
it makes a clicking noise and doesn't seem to move the sunroof right unless
you are VERY careful with it is there a way I can check if this is the
cables or the crank? Has power windos all around they seem to work fine,
but the he said the power lock thing doesn't work sometimes, it worked fine
for me and he said it hadn't done it for a long time. It has cross drilled
rotors all around and supposedly new front calipers (didn't remove wheels to
look) it stops incredibly. There aren't many records for this car the owner
has SOME receipts from MVP where he had the front struts done along with one
ball joint. The OD supposedly works but the shifter with the wiring is all
f***ed up (there is no top to the shift knob or switch but some wires are
coming out of shift tunnel). The car also has a few minor things that don't
work like the console lights don't come on. Supposedly the engine hasn't
had a rebuild but looks REALLY clean (may have just been steam cleaned), but
it also runs really well. How long could I expect this engine to last
without rebuilding the engine or the turbo? Are there any other things to
look out for? I know 84's are supposed to be the worst for wiring harnesses
but this is K-jet so there isn't really an injection wiring harness is
there, does some other harness go bad?
He is asking $3250 but he has "$900 worth of stereo equiptment that can
stay or go with the car" I would definitely not want the stereo. What
should I offer I was thinking about $2000 without the stereo because of the
turbo leak and the cosmetic stuff. I can fix pretty much all the problems
it has for cheap I think except the turbo and the paint.
