Key will not go into the ignition 200 1986

I have 86 240 DL, having problems once the key have been removed from the ignition, not able to re-insert into the ignition, usually when the key is pulled out you will hear a distinctive "click", but if it doesnt "click" then it`s almost impossible to re-insert the key back in. any sugestions will be apreciated.
