After I posted my success with using contact cleaner to spray out the dirt in the ACC temp sender tube, it occurred to me to share another fix this stuff was good for, ie: radio volume control static/scratchiness. On my 960, I was getting a lot of scratchy noise when adjusting the volume, and losing one channel fairly often. The lost channel could be brought back by pushing or pulling the volume know, usually. I put up with it for months, while casually looking around for replacement alternatives. When I couldn't find anything reasonable that would fit and look well, I decided to try the cleaner route. About 30 minutes to pull the radio, take it to my shop and remove face plate, remove the small (about 1 inch) circuit board with the volume control potentiometer or whatever the right name is on it, and spray the cleaner through small access holes to get the fluid into the windings a few times, while rotating the volume knog to wipe off the built up crud/corrosion. Result was a complete fix, and it has stayed that way for some 7-8 months so far. The stuff I used was from Radio Shack at about $8./per can, with lots left for new uses. Only tool used was one very small screw driver. ( by the way, be sure you have the radio code before removing the radio - dealer parts guy can look it up for you)
