late model rear hatch question ? 245 200

i have an '82 245, and like every one i've come across in the wreckers or my mechanics yard, it has the nasty rust bubbles along the bottom of the window. now i've seen some newer looking volvo 245's with what appeared to be a flush mounted rear window, is that tailgate a simple swap replacement ? or is it just a glass & gasket upgrade like with the windshield ? i'm guessing that i need to remove the glass to fix the rust anyways ? do they use the same hinges ? of course if there's any relatively cheap method of getting my hands on a newer rear hatch, i'd love to go that route ? any guru's who can bring me up to speed ?
